De Valera Éamon


Éamon de Valera (born George Edward de Valera, Éamon de Bhailéara in Irish, on 14th October 1882 in New York - died on 29th August 1975 in Dublin), is considered to be the father of the Free Irish nation. He took part in the Easter Rising of 1916 in Dublin. He was the third President of Ireland from 25th June 1959 to 24th June 1973.

Famous for his decisive struggle for Ireland's independence at the beginning of the 20th century, and as leader of the republican opposition after the Irish civil war, de Valera is known as the most influential Irishman of the 20th century.
