Haas Xavier


Xavier Haas (1907-1950) was a painter and engraver, born in Paris of a family originally from Alsace. He was won over to Brittany which he discovered in 1919 in Sarzeau, during a long visit to Lan Hoedig where he was recovering from Poliomylitis. He met Xavier de Langlais who became a friend. He took part in the foundation of the Association for the paralysed of France and in the newspaper 'Faire Face'.

He joined the artistic organisation of 'Seiz Breur' in 1936. He also helped at the 'Atelier Breton d'Art Chrétien', founded in 1929 by James Bouillé and Xavier de Langlais. A close associate of the 'Parti National Breton' he illustrated their works during the Second World War.
