Prosper Proux, born in Poullaouen on 20th October 1811 and died in Morlaix on 11th May 1873, was a Breton language writer. Tax inspector by profession, he was one of the best known Breton bards of the 19th century, composing two volumes of poems and a great number of songs. Two collections were published during his lifetime: 'Canaouennou gret gant eur C'hernewod' (1838), and 'Bombard Kerne-Jabadao ha Kaniri' (1866). Some of his songs were also published in magazines and on loose leaves.
A monument in his honor, done by the sculptor René Quillivic, was erected in Guerlesquin in 1919.
